How many grooms have you supported in the buying process since your website launched?
Groovy Groomsmen has been running since 2012, when we made our first sale and we’ve growing every year since. We’ve worked with all types of grooms since then, really honing in on what is important to them in ensuring we are thoughtful and comprehensive around our store. We realize it’s a huge deal to honor those men in your party and we want to give grooms the confidence to make a really smart decision.
Since 2012, our general ballpark on grooms has been around 18K. We’ve grown enormously in that time frame, have actually had a number of celebrities in the mix. When we think about it, that’s a lot of very special moments that we’ve been helpful with.
What’s most important to grooms in choosing a gift for their groomsmen?
- Guys want things that they’re going to use. They’re simple folk, with simple needs. They want to look good, have fun with each other and carry out the primal necessities in life like cutting and fixing. They want practical.
- Just like a den or a man cave, guys want stuff that really feels like their own. Hence, they love personalization.
- Guys also like gifts that have a slightly cool spin to the standard functionality. They don’t want some gizmo that will confuse them, but one that will make them feel unique and special when they’re using it. We say slight, because if you go too far in this direction and the gift becomes more ridiculous for the moment than functional in the long term, it’s going to find a box in the basement quick.
What’s the average price point or range per gift?
We have lots of data accumulated over the last five years and average price per gift is one of the most curious data points amongst our shoppers. To date, numbers shows that the average gift cost in wide range of budgets is around $37/per. The average overall purchase is around $220.
Do most want them personalized? What types of messages do they like to include?
99% of our gifts are personalized. Engraving or monogramming a gift is an instant stroke of gift genius that will always bring originality. There are so many ways to go; you can go nickname, initials, dates, favorite quotes or just their place in the wedding party. When it comes to the best groomsmen gifts, it’s almost a no-brainer to go the personalization route if there is any guessing going on. These are the kind of gifts that speak to you putting thought and effort into how you honor your best men.
What’s the average size of a wedding party these days? How many groomsmen?
Another key data point that we have been able to pull from a really big sample size. The average wedding party has about 6.5 groomsmen.
Do grooms ever buy for anyone besides their groomsmen?
Yes they do, you’ll see them buy for the father-of-the-bride, the ring bearer, junior groomsmen and sometimes even their bride-to-be! The thing is, while we market to groomsmen, our gifts are really versatile and can generally be used for a much wider audience for a variety of other occasions such as Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Graduation, etc. Sourcing great gifts is one of our biggest points of emphasis and we’ve put a lot of pride into making sure we have a really fun, cool and creative collection for our shoppers.
